“ Lao Hu Cheng is a gem! The Pad Thai, curry, and sweet and sour chicken are exceptional—so flavorful and perfectly cooked. The owner is wonderful, bringing such warmth to the restaurant and creating an inviting atmosphere. You can tell they put heart into every dish and caters to my gluten free need. It’s easily some of the best food I’ve ever had. Highly recommend for anyone craving authentic, delicious flavors! ”

“ The only way I can describe this meal is like going to your Asian grandmother's house, the one you didn't know you had. We were greeted in a friendly manner. We had never been there before. The reviews were good, so we figured, why not? The only criticism I have about our visit is that the menu has shrunk. I think this has more to do with our bad timing than of the restaurant itself. The owner (May), who literally was working by herself doing both the order taking and the cooking, sat down and had a conversation with us. It was like going to families for lunch while you were served by family and cooked for by family. We both had masaman curry. It was cooked to order. I wanted mild, my partner wanted medium. The drink we were served was a bit of an experiment, but I HIGHLY recommend it. It was a blend of apple juice, ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, and I think a hint of cloves. It was delicious. The restaurant has moved within the same plaza, so there may not be a new sign up. There was ample parking for the Sunday we went out on. The atmosphere is casual, the food is well prepared, and the service and experience is eclectic. We would definitely entertain going again. Some words of wisdom. This is a dining experience. If you're looking for a fast food, in and out experience, this is NOT the place for you. If you want good food where you feel like family is preparing it, then you should enjoy this dining experience. ”

“ FRESH! Everything this place puts out is made with fresh never frozen ingredients. Fresh fruit on the counter for smoothies. Self serve Jasmine and green tea available also water. This quaint place boasts an older lady named Mae, who is ready to please any guest with her hospitality and fresh home made cuisine. Seriously a must try! I had the spicy basil chicken special, fresh basil, fresh ginger, white pepper, zucchini, onions, potatoes, broccoli, and something else, on a bed of white rice! The flavors were unaltered and genuine. She does not use MSG or Soy sauce, or ANY oil to prepare meals for an authentic Asian flavor, which is the only thing they provide. This place is like going to your grammas house for a feel good meal. If you’re expecting anything less then go somewhere else. This is not Fast Food!! It’s food for the soul. A great place to decompress and drink tea. ”

In summary, eating here is like taking a trip to your Asian grandmother, where she cooks you your favorite meal the same way, every time. I place the special order, chicken ramen. While I enjoy more salt than normal, this dish was very close to my preference. In my opinion, slightly too much pepper. The mushrooms, while not bland, taste more like the water used to rinse them. All in all, I would highly recommend this place. ”

“ May is back with wonderful home cooked selections! I am a long time fan of her cooking, and I'm so glad to have her in Clemson again. The new dining room has some partitioned off tables that seem great for meetings/privacy. There is a selection of asian groceries available for purchase as well. As for the food, I am very satisfied with the flavor and the portions! Yummy!! I'm excited to come back for a smoothie. ”

“ I have never been so impressed by a restaurant as I was this evening at Lao Hu Cheng Asian Bistro. The owner, May, runs the entire thing by herself. Meeting her is like a warm hug from your grandmother and the ambiance is soothing and smooth like a lullaby. We ordered the Tom Ka Gai soup and the Massaman Chicken Curry. May offered us complimentary hot tea before she disappeared into the kitchen to cook our meal from scratch. We tried some homemade wheat sweetener for the tea instead of honey, which was delicious, and when she reappeared with our dinner, we knew we were in for a treat. The food was beautiful and fresh and so fragrant with notes of curry, lime, peanut and coconut. To eat her food is definitely comforting and something we needed on such a cold and blustery day. I’m raving over this place and over the friendly lady that deserves praise. WONDERFUL, May! This is easily now my favorite restaurant in the area!! ”
